Rhenium is a silvery, heavy metal with high melting point. It has the third-highest melting point, only after carbon and tungsten. Rhenium is often added to superalloys that are used to make jet engine parts. It is also used in platinum-rhenium catalysts for performing certain reactions to a type of hydrocarbon know as an olefin.

Rhenium is a silvery, heavy metal with a high melting point. It has the third-highest melting point, only after carbon and tungsten.
Rhenium is often added to superalloys that are used to make jet engine parts. It is also used in platinum-rhenium catalysts for performing certain reactions to a type of hydrocarbon known as an olefin.
Rhenium compounds have a wide variety of oxidation states ranging from -1 to +7. It is most available commercially as salts of perrhenate, including sodium and ammonium perrhenates.
